Twitter-ing

Okay -I watched the video clip, got on Twitter and checked it out. Signed up as Trixiereads and posted a Twit or a Twerp - oh yah, a Tweet. I see what people use it for and I could help someone get signed up if they wanted my help! But mainly I learned from this exercise that I wish my name was Lee LeFever!

Okay, I'm on a mission today. Finished TWO things in one day! I'd really like to get all the way through Learn and Play, but I fear I will run out of time. Anyway, just went through Library Thing. I liked the recommendation feature and can see how hard-core book people could spend a lot of time here. I, alas, have other things to do. maybe when I'm retired I'll have time to kvetch with other readers and look through their bookshelves! Here is the link to my library, I think!

Image generators

Took a look around the suggested sites. The Generator Blog has some fun stuff - haiku generators, poster and sign makers, and a LOT more. I went through the biorhythm generator and found out that tomorrow my three energy lines (physical, emotional and intellectual) will cross above the 0 line, which to me sounds like a good thing! After that, my physical cycle heads downd ans the other two head up. Hmmm... Does that mean I'll be getting even LAZIER than I've been lately? Hard to imagine!

Finding Neverland

No wait, I think that's Finding RSS feeds... Thing #9 encouraged me to look around for ways to find useful blogs and feeds. I'm gonna come completely clean here - I looked around the suggested search sites, and just can't get excited about this whole blogging thing. I can't really say why - I just can't imagine I'll ever write in my own blog or look at anyone else's. It's just not something that needs to be a part of my life right now.
Learn and Play is helping me understand what's out there in cyberworld and what other people are doing (though I can't really understand WHY they spend so much time at the computer!) So it's useful, I guess - at least it's not a totally foreign world to me anymore!

The land of RSS feeds...

The exercise was pretty tricky - it involved hopping around to many different places, joining and registering and choosing and cutting and pasting. But I think I got it okay. This RSS thing is something I could actually see myself using at some point. I mean, I don't have the time, interest, or patience to slog through all the available info out there. If I ever decide to cancel the newspaper I could see the news feeds being really useful.

Two days in a row!

The techno space in my brain is reeling from all this activity - TWO L&P activities in one week! Blog about anything technology related, the instructions say. Well, I'd like to say how much I totally love digital cameras! You can take a million pictures, trying for the perfect one (or just trying for a million pictures!) No more horrible surprises when the film comes back from developing and you realize the lens is messed up and you do not in fact have any shots of your son and his friends after their high school graduation! Not to mention all the things you can do with the pictures - sharing them via email, using them as graphics... I mean, how cool is it that I open up my phone and see a picture of big fat Oliver lounging on the kitchen table!

And another Thing...

Okay, so I've played around with Flickr and if I'm lucky I'll be able to figure out how to share what I made. Here goes!
Oooh - I did it, I did it! old dog, more new tricks...

Fun with Flickr

Some very cool photos here - here's one I especially liked: http://www.flickr.com/photos/keesssss/2918782883/

OMG - did I actually figure out how to do that? I did it all by myself!
And it was only a 4-swear word process.

Wonder what I get to do next?

Are we having fun yet?

A coworker told me it might be good to write about what a hard time I'm having with these "fun things", so here goes. At the onset of L&P, I thought to myself "Great! This is stuff I really need to learn about, since I'm an old fart who hasn't embraced the technology (or imagined any usefulness of) all these newfangled communication forums." Unfortunately, my enthusiasm was quickly extinguished because the online tutorials are more or less impossible for me to follow. I need to learn from a person, I guess, one who can answer questions as we go along and help me understand everything that's going on. That's how I learn ANYTHING. I'm already tired of asking my smart young coworkers - there's only so much help you can ask before before you become annoying... I'm going to try the "buddy system" - find someone else who's maybe struggling a bit, who'd like to team up, put our heads together and between us maybe we can make some progress. Wish me luck!

Phew!

These "three easy steps" to create my blog - HA! Similar for me to the "three hour tour" taken by Gilligan and his mates. Not so easy, and way more than three by the time I got done with it. Not to mention necessitating a bail-out from my panic by my kind and understanding coworker.
Will this be my first and last post? We'll see...
